Aemyria: the severed world
Ruthless and elusive, the shadowkin are a criminal organization that has over the years infiltrated every other faction and country. Everything goes when it comes to the shadowkin. Among their ranks are professional assassins, poisoners, spies, thieves and the like. However, one unique aspect of the shadowkin is that all professions are welcome inside the shadowkin, as long as they adhere to the Code. The scariest aspect of the shadowkin is easily their ability to infilitrate factions with ease. No one knows how many shadowkin have taken up with the various factions, but everyone knows that all factions have members that are really shadowkin. In the year 259, the silverhand, started an all-out war with the shadowkin, whom they considered their foremost enemy. Now the Blade of Xansrax would never really consider the silverhand an ally, but this was an exception. Furious at the fact that the Shadowkin had “defiled” their glorious faction, Xansrax brokered a deal with the Silverhand and coordinated attacks on known shadowkin hideouts. A number of shadowkin were put to the sword, but most escaped having prior knowledge of the impending attack. Nevertheless, hideouts were burned and equipment was ruined. Myldoslontiar, the Shadowdragon Highlord didn’t wish to pass up on the chance to make an example of his enemies. He had every single member that had infilitrated both the Blades and the Silverhand make an exit from their factions, but not before they had taken down as many high-ranking members as they could. The silverhand were decimated; a good majority of ranking officers and important members were cut down in cold blood that day. The silverhand remember and mourn on the Day of the Red Dawn The Silverhand did not think that so many members of their faction were really shadowkin, and they paid dearly for their miscalculation. The blades fared a little better. Xansrax predicted retaliation and thus warned his officers to be on the lookout. They didn’t survive unscathed however, and still lost a great many ranking officers. The silverhand and blades learned their lesson, never again did they directly confront the shadowkin. This is where the shadowkin stand; feared and loathed by all, but no one wishes to directly deal with the menace they represent. The flameforged generally work fairly well with the shadowkin, as they’ve come to respect each other. The shadowkin and the Wolfbrothers generally leave each other alone, as the shadowkin see little reason to infiltrate them thoroughly because the Wolfbrothers care little for political intrigue, and the wolfbrothers couldn’t care less what the shadowkin are up to, as long they are left alone.
Goals: The goals of the shadowkin are fairly basic; spread their influence as far and as deep as they can. Along the way, they seek to acquire as much wealth and as many artifacts as they can. They generally aren’t interested in acquiring artifacts except for bargaining power. However, sometimes they take a deep interest in an artifact that would directly benefit their cause.
Hierarchy and structure: When it comes to the Shadowkin it comes to how much you own. The rich and ruthless find themselves rise in ranks quickly, and gain access to more services. They operate as a series of cells on the field, with each faction having multiple cells, each with 5 agents. The agent are handpicked for each mission based on their skill set and what it needed for that mission. Agents who serve the cause well retire as a Crime Baron. Of course, the most powerful Barons can be found in Nox
