Aemyria: the severed world
The Flameforged live in their volcanic fortress Pyragoth located in the land of Caratacus. Make no mistake, the Order of the hunt has no control over them whatsoever. They serve the Great red Dragon Highlord, Hrynox. The Flameforged are master artisans if you will, creating not only powerful and unique magical artifacts, but weapons and armor of unrivaled quality. Because of this, they are also master merchants, and are very skilled at bartering. In fact, they exclusively forge the spears for the Wolfbrothers. The flameforged generally don’t start conflicts with other factions; they generally prefer to goad other factions into doing their dirty work or into attacking them at their well defended fortress. Glib and manipulative they are experts at goading their enemies and political manuevering to advance their own cause. Unlike the Blades of Xansrax and similar factions they aren’t concerned with conquest and are quite content with all the land they have. They are very concerned with obtaining artifacts for study and with furthering general magic knowledge.
Outlook and philosophy: As already previously stated, they are masters of manipulation. This is reflected by their philosophy; the weak-minded are there for their personal use and gain. They are taught from an early age to harness their emotions rather than be slaves to it. While they are known for violent and intense emotional outbursts they would never do so in front of non-members. They are also taught that the weak should be culled if they cannot serve some purpose. This affects their hierarchy strongly.
Hierarchy and interior structure: While they all answer to Hrynox the Flameforged are ruled by the Syrtha ka’kyrrak which consists of the 5 High Mages (ka’kyrrak) and the Archmage (syr’kyrrak). The Archmage is the ruling authority (besides Hrynox) and the council of high mages answer to him. It should be noted however that there are two castes within their faction, the Kyrrak and the Anaratharak. The Kyrrak are fairly straightforward; they are the mages. Anyone of any type of magical prowess and skill (generally limited to archivists, arcane users and psions) belongs to this caste. The Kyrrak are in charge of administrative duties (basically making sure the (place is run smoothly), creating magical artifacts and as merchants. The Anaratharak which loosely translates to “Dread Guard” in Pyragothian are the warrior caste. They have been tasked with guarding members of the Kyrrak, and forging arms and armor. While the Kyrrak answer to Hrynox, the Anaratharak answer directly to Hrynox, having a direct mental bond to their master. In this respect the Anaratharak serve a much more sinister purpose. Since most mages of note (and all mages on the high council and the archmage) are given Anaratharak as personal bodyguards, they are also to execute any mage that displeases Hrynox as soon as he gives the order. Only 3 Archmages have been executed in the last 500 years as Hrynox is notoriously fickle when it comes to choosing a new Archmage.
